Life After a Healing

Dustin+ Messer

In our healing service last week, we saw the Spirit move. Bodies, minds, and spirits encountered the life-giving, life-changing power of Jesus. This Sunday, we'll ask the question, now what? How then shall we live after an encounter with the Good Physician?

As it happens, the lectionary will have us focus on a gospel lesson that answers this very question. In our passage (Luke 6), people flock to Jesus for the same reason we did on Sunday, to "hear him and to be healed of their diseases." Jesus did to them what he did for us, "power came out from him and healed them all."

Immediately following this episode, Jesus preaches. His sermon contextualizes the healing everyone experienced. He tells them that those of them who are poor, hungry, sad, and marginalized are blessed, while the rich, well-fed, happy, and popular are cursed. In short, he says those content with the way things are now belong to the past, while those who ache for what's next belong to the future.

You see, there are two kingdoms, one of light and the other of darkness. The kingdom of darkness is the passing-away status quo while the eschatological kingdom of Jesus is the in-breaking future.

What the people had experienced was an encounter with the kingdom of light, a foretaste of what's to come. Jesus is inviting the crowd, and us, to let go of the kingdom of darkness, the present way of the world. He's inviting us to loosen our grip on the current regime, and take hold of his reign, which is both here and coming.

This is not to say that we choose loneliness and hunger and marginalisation for its own sake; not at all. Rather, we chose to disassociate ourselves from the kingdom of darkness that we might receive the kingdom of light. We fast that we might feast. What is life like after experiencing healing? It's a life of more. On Sunday, we will receive more: more healing, more life, more of Jesus and his Spirit. I hope you can join us!

Many of you have asked about the talks given at the healing conference last weekend. You can find them HERE. They cover areas of spiritual warfare, the 2 kingdoms of light and darkness, identity, freedom through Spiritual Cleansing, Forgiveness as Spiritual Warfare and more. Enjoy.

Also, if you have any feedback or testimonies from our healing service from last Sunday, please let us know HERE. They could be physical healing, blessings received, or any other consequences from the Sunday services.
