The philosopher Dallas Willard said that ‘“The Lord is my Shepherd” is written on many more tombstones than lives. So many of us find comfort in Psalm 23 in moments of crisis and death, but almost just as many of us are not particularly looking for a shepherd when our life is going well.

As we continue in the Easter season, having just seen more than a dozen baptisms and two dozen confirmations, we know that we don’t want to continue in the status quo. We want to receive the promised life of the Risen Christ in our day-to-day reality.

What does it mean for “The Lord is my Shepherd,” to be the baseline for every area of our lives? What would it look like to work and rest from a place of security and abundance, from utter dependence on the God who shepherds us? How would that change who we are as friends, parents, partners, employees, employers?
