Today begins the Holy Triduum, the three days culminating in the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Sunday.

Through the events we will walk through together over the next several days, my prayer for all of us is that we can say, “I have seen the Lord.” These words on the lips of Mary Magdalene at the end of her encounter with Jesus in the garden are the foundation of the Church throughout the ages. The Church only exists because there are people who can say, “I have seen the Lord.” This implies, of course, that God is revealing Himself in history, in Scripture, and through others, but most importantly through a direct relationship with Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit.

On Easter Sunday, we will look at the progression of faith from non-belief to partial belief to these words: “I have seen the Lord.” Pray and take the time to let Him reveal Himself to you over the major events we celebrate beginning tonight with Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday. I believe we have ongoing conversions in our life. It’s not just a one-time prayer we pray or an emotion we feel. But whatever it is, the Church’s prophetic witness to the world is these words: “I have seen the Lord.”

Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday) at 6:30 p.m.

Holy Communion on the night Jesus instituted this sacred meal of receiving the Body and Blood of Christ. Our annual footwashing is also part of this service and a beautiful and humbling experience for friends, family, and children.

Good Friday Stations of the Cross from 12:00–2:00 p.m.

Come for some or all of this time as we contemplate, through music, silence, and scripture, the events leading up to Jesus’s death on the cross.

Easter Vigil at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday

This has become one of the most popular and meaningful worship services of the year. The church building is dark like a tomb as we light the first Easter fire and observe the gradual lighting of the whole church. Biblically and liturgically rich, this service sets the tone for Sunday’s Easter celebrations at all four services.
