He Reigns!

He Reigns!

He Reigns!

Today, 50 days since Easter, the church marks the day of Jesus' ascension. This Sunday, we'll consider, meditate, and celebrate the fact that Jesus is, presently, sitting at the right hand of the Father.

You see, Ascension Day isn't about where Jesus isn't, it's about where he is. He is at the command center. He's at the heart of reality. He's enthroned; he is the true King David. Ascension day is inauguration day.

Old Testament scholar John Walton often points to God's rest on the 7th day of creation as a kingly activity. It's not that he's tired, it's that he's sitting upon the throne he's built--ready to take command of the good creation he's just built. Both the creation account and the ascension account answer the question, "who is in control?"

What does it mean, here and now, that Jesus is reigning? Asked differently, what does heaven have to do with earth? That's the question we'll consider Sunday. Together, we will bask in the light of the kingdom which dawned at the ascension. I pray you can join us for this special feast day!
